Developing media literacy and critical thinking with our pupils to protect them from being victims of fraud and financial crime

About this event

This workshop builds on our series of Fraud and Financial Crime CPD, this time developing the important skills of media literacy and critical thinking for students when dealing with the threat of fraud and financial Crime. It is vital that our students have the tools available to them to protect themselves against all types of online crime, which is so often linked to fraud and caused by not recognising the warning signs. As these operations become more sophisticated it is important that students have the tools to recognise these schemes. 

Working through well established media literacy techniques, and with one of the writers of our Fraud curriculum materials. You will explore practical resources to use in your classroom to identify fraud and money mule attempts, that can also be applied to areas of media literacy and to encourage critical thinking. 

This workshop is interactive and will provide opportunities to explore the resources, and discuss with the event team and fellow attendees how best to apply them.

Attending all four sessions will lead to participants gaining a certificate from ACT and the Home Office giving national recognition for Fraud and Financial Crime Education Teaching.

Attending any single session will still be of great benefit and all participants will receive a certificate of attendance

Building upon the CPD offering in the previous year and feedback from our members, we have introduced a new strand entitled ‘Politics, Elections and Society’ which provides broader subject knowledge enhancement and incorporates a range of elements from previous CPD strands.
