The Council for Subject Associations (CfSA) share its manifesto and sets out plan to support subject expertise

The Council for Subject Associations (CfSA) share its manifesto, which sets out a plan towards revitalising teaching, and supporting subject expertise across the curriculum.

The Council for Subject Associations (CfSA), a group representing teachers across more than 30 subjects, has published a manifesto calling for a focus on teacher expertise and a revamp of the national curriculum.

ACT’s Chief Executive, Liz Moorse, who also serves as Director of CfSA says “Revitalising our subject curriculum and teaching profession is key to creating impactful education. ACT is proud to be part of CfSA. Together we are a powerful alliance who work to ensure every learner benefits from an inspiring curriculum that enables pupils to become active, informed citizens ready for the challenges and opportunities of life and work.

In the manifesto the CfSA emphasise that both government and educators should come together to revitalise teaching and make the profession more respected. The CfSA also proposes a broad and balanced national curriculum that is relevant to the 21st century, with a review of the subjects included and the knowledge and skills students should learn.

The manifesto also calls for a re-emphasis on subject knowledge and expertise for teachers at all levels. The CfSA suggests working with subject associations to establish lead practitioner roles and ensure teachers have the knowledge they need to deliver effective lessons.
